'The Story,' Brandi Carlile
From 2007's 'The Story'
Every few years I find a song that captures a truth in my life that I was never able to articulate. Wham! The light goes on and I'm amazed that another human being gets me yet doesn't even know me. This time around it's Brandi Carlile's 'The Story.'
I first heard this song when Brandi came by for a conference room performance. It may not be the choicest of venues, but she knocked it out of the park. "All of these lines across my face, tell you a story of who I am," she sings with a vocal inflection that echoes her agony. In the tune, Brandi is filled with the triumph of finding a person to share her life with and the realization that in doing so, you're putting all of your eggs into one basket. And just like that my life makes sense again. Thanks, Brandi.

Agreed. Nice tune. But tell me that she doesn't look a wee bit like Adam Ant in this photo:-)

The raw emotion that comes out in Brandi's vocals almost brought me to tears- very heartfelt and beautiful, indeed!

Brandi is a real talent and deserves all the accolades presented to her. Her band is great, too. She would look even better if she acknowledged their considerable contributions to writing and performing, and the overall success of Brandi Carlile the Group. In her interviews, she almost never uses the word "we" to describe their successes and challenges. While she fronts the band and gives her name, she is certainly not alone in where credit is due. While she accepts compliments and raves for her singing and considerable writing talent, perhaps she would also like to be known for being NOBLE, CHARITABLE, GRACIOUS, CONSIDERATE, HONORABLE, and KIND. When she is asked who influences her, helps her and challenges her, it would go along way with the public if she shows APPRECIATION of others' talents, which have enabled her own to shine even brighter. THese virtues are not for women only. An example is Dave Matthews, who also headlines for his band, but who always makes sure to give them their props and recognition for the group's success. This may seem small, but it speaks BIG!

It's a good song, I feel as if she's just screaming in half her songs though. Make no mistake she is a good singer, definitely better than I will ever be.

i think her music is beautiful, but it's not one of those songs that you can play real loud without breaking your ear drum. i think her music got a bit squeaky at a point, but it made the song better. I heard it was going to be on grey's something, is that true?

OMG! This song is legend! It's soooo gd. She reminds me of a more rocky sort of Norah Jones.

And ye, Christina. The video for it has got clips of Greys in it. Go on to www.abc.go.com and then go to shows and then on Greys Anatomy. In the video box it has 'Brandi Carlile - The Story' :D You'd never guess I was from England :P
